The Benefits Of CBD Oil For Dogs
Have you ever wondered what the benefits of CBD oil for dogs is? Or maybe you want to know what CBD oil is? It has become so popular for humans because people realize they can replace some of their medication with this CBD oil. The CBD oil usually has no side effects unlike a medication. When you are taking a medication you most likely will have one or more side effects. I’m not saying it helps everything and everyone, but for some people and dogs, it has done wonders. They even make CBD products catered to dog’s now. Of course that’s not surprise since pet parents treat their dogs just like family.
CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a compound found in cannabis and hemp. Cannabis actually contains four hundred different compounds and cannabidiol is one of them. CBD oil is not going to give you the high like regular Marijuana. The hemp is so low in concentration that it is considered non- psychoactive. CBD hemp oil should have no more than 0.3 percent or less for a THC level. Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol is another name for THC. THC is the psychoactive compound that is found in regular cannabis. In regular Marijuana you can see THC levels up to thirty percent.
How Can CBD Help Your Dogs Health?
Dogs have the same endocannabinoid system as us humans. Dogs have two receptors The first one is CB1 and they are located in the brain, nervous system, glands and organs. CB2 is located in the regulatory cells of the immune system. CBD oil targets these receptors and keeps a healthy and balanced body.
The Many Benefits
This oil supplies many benefits to your dog. CBD oil helps fight cancer. It supports the immune system in killing bad cells and takes away their ability to reproduce. There is also appetite control. At times our dogs may lose appetite due to illness or other problems. CBD oil can stimulate the endocannabinoid system and that in return can help increase their appetite.
Marijuana is known for it’s calming effect in people. This is true for dogs as well. The CBD oil compound enters the brain through the endocannabinoid system. The brain will then release serotonin and calm your dog. Serotonin is the chemical in your brain that releases feelings of happiness and calmness. This can help with anxieties all sorts like fireworks or car trips that they may not do so well with.
As our dogs get older, arthritis or other ailments may prevent them from moving as often. CBD oil is a known pain reliever. It also helps reduce swelling. An old dog without pain is willing to move more than one in pain. If the oil helps than why not try it out? They might even lose a few pounds due to being more active.
Hemp oil is rich with Omega- 3 and 6, fatty acids, polynonsaturated fats, Vitamin E, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, calcium, and phosphorous. No wonder many people see a difference in their dogs skin and coat health! There are times when itchy or dry skin may clear up with the help of this oil.
There have been cases where cannabis has helped people with seizures and that goes for dogs too! I have heard stories where it has significantly reduced or took the seizures away fully! If your dog has regular seizures, they may suffer from epilepsy. Epilepsy happens when there is uncontrolled electricity in your dogs brain. CBD oil goes to the CB1 receptors in their body and improves seizure control. It can also calm the overactive neurons.
Nausea is noticeable if your dogs appetite decreases. Sometimes dog’s eat the wrong thing running around the yard. Some dogs suffer from nausea every day. There are other things you can try before using CBD oil because it may be a short-lived symptom. But for dogs with long term nausea, it may be worth a shot.
Is Their Risks?
When you’re buying an oil you want to make sure you are buying from an organic and toxic free company. How the oil is processed can make a difference as well. You want to find the companies that use safe methods. If the company uses carbon dioxide or cold press extraction that is a safer alternative then hexane or butane extraction methods. Some companies test their products independently. They will show a certificate of analysis that tests certain chemicals like pesticides or mycotoxins.
The THC level in your oil should always be 0.3 percent or lower so that it is safe for your dog. When looking into a good oil you usually get what you pay for, so buying the cheapest one you can find may not be the most effective.
No safety and risk tests have been researched yet for CBD oil. There are side effects that have been known to happen to dogs even though it is usually uncommon. High doses of CBD oil have been known to cause a temporary drop in blood pressure. The oil can decrease the production of saliva. This results in a thirsty dog. Drowsiness or light head is also common with an oil overdose or reaction.
If your dog is on prescription medications you will want to talk to your Veterinarian first because CBD oil can decrease the activity of liver enzymes used to metabolize many prescription drugs that your dog may be on.
How does Dosage Work?
Every oil you buy is going to be a tad different from another companies oil. I personally have used hempworx oil for myself and the drops work great. The company also sells CBD treats and drops for dogs and cats. I have not tried CBD oil yet with my dog but I will put the weight recommendations ( hempworx brand) at the bottom so you can get an idea of how much your dog would need. This company has 250mg of CBD oil in each bottle or dog treats with 2.5mg CBD per treat.
If anyone has ever used CBD oils on their dog I would love to hear how it went or how it’s going. I haven’t heard any bad reviews yet so any input would be awesome! I’m also curious as to what brand you are using so I can compare it to my experience with Hempworx.
